India cricket team star Sanju Samson addressed his demotion in the batting order in Asia Cup 2025 and categorically stated that he was ready to do any job for the country. The Kerala keeper-batter was awarded the best T20I batter of the year at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards on Tuesday. Samson, who lost the role of opener in the T20I side to Shubman Gill, batted down the order in the Asia Cup and had even said that he was ready to be a villain or joker in order to keep his spot in the side.
Samson’s message to Gambhir
Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards, Sanju said that he did not mind batting at number 9 or even bowling left-arm spin. He said that one can’t so no to anything when donning the Indian jersey, adding that he had worked very hard to make it to the Indian dressing room.
“Even if you want me to bat at No. 9, maybe bowl some left-arm spin, whatever job for the country, I don’t mind,” Samson stated.
Despite being asked to bat at a position where he has no prior experience, Sanju did fairly well in the Asia Cup 2025. He scored 39 runs in the Super Fours clash against Sri Lanka and a crucial 24-run knock in the final against Pakistan. Samson acknowledged that while he had recently completed 10 years in international cricket, he had played only 40 matches.
“I recently completed 10 years of international cricket, but I’ve played only 40 games in those 10 years. Honestly, I put in a post saying the numbers don’t tell the whole story, but I’m really proud of the person I am today, and I’m really proud of the challenges I went through. Instead of focusing on the outside noise, I started a habit of focusing on the internal noise,” Samson said.
