The trade deal between Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja is all but confirmed and is being delayed only due to the BCCI. CSK have agreed to trade the all-rounder and Sam Curran for the Kerala keeper-batter ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. If the trade is okayed by the BCCI, this will the third trade deal ahead of the retention deadline, with Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford being traded to MI from LSG and GT respectively.
What’s delaying Samson-Jadeja trade deal
As per The Hindu, the trade deal between RR and CSK is awaiting the final approval from the BCCI. It has been learnt that both teams have already raised an Expression of Interest (EOI) and have obtained the consent of all three players. While Samson and Jadeja were retained by RR and CSK for Rs 18 crore before the IPL 2025 mega auction, Curran was bought for Rs 2.40 crore.
Additionally, the report states that the CSK think tank comprising of MS Dhoni, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, head coach Stephen Fleming will meet on Friday to finalize on the retentions for IPL 2026. The deadline for teams to finalize on their retention is November 15 by 5 PM. The IPL 2026 auction will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
Prior to including Curran in the trade deal involving Samson and Jadeja, RR had demanded young Dewald Brevis to be a part of the deal. However, CSK simply refused to let go of one of their best batters who was signed as a mid-season replacement in IPL 2025 and created instant impact.
Months earlier, a report had also claimed that CSK were planning to release Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar along with Sam Curran. CSK finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in the history of IPL in 2025.
