Rohit Sharma‘s future in Tests hangs in balance as a new report has shed light on the selectors’ plans going forward. A PTI report has claimed that it is unlikely that the Hitman will be picked for the series against England in June. Uncertainty over Rohit’s future in the longest format of the game has been persisting ever since his string of poor scores that began in IND vs BAN Tests and went on till the end of Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
End of the road for Rohit Sharma in Tests?
As per news agency PTI, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead the Indian team in IND vs ENG Tests. The report comes at a time when Rohit had categorically stated earlier that he has no plans to retire from Tests anytime soon. The report provided an update on Bumrah’s fitness, stating that he was yet to start bowling in full tilt and that he was likely to return to action in IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians.
“He (Bumrah) can come back for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and then lead India in England as Rohit Sharma is unlikely to be picked for Tests again,” the report stated.

“It is understood that the main bone of contention was that Bumrah is yet to start bowling full tilt and those in the know of things said that it is very difficult to get match-fit in such a short time,” the report added.
Bumrah had led the Indian team on two occasions in the IND vs AUS Test series. In the 1st Test in Perth, he had led the side to a 295-run victory over Australia in the absence of Rohit. He once again captained India in the 5th Test in Sydney, but this time in a losing cause. That was the same game in which he picked up a back injury that saw him being ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy.
