Rohit Sharma creates unwanted record in Champions Trophy Final, loses 12th consecutive toss in ODIs

Rohit Sharma hasn't won a toss as India's ODI captain since November 2023.

Rohit Sharma hasn’t started the ICC Champions Trophy Final on a bad note. The opener has lost his 12th consecutive toss as the captain of India’s ODI cricket team. The bad luck started with the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Team India has played six teams under his captaincy since, and the coin hasn’t landed in his favour once. Luckily, this hasn’t had an impact on Team India’s performance.

This toss could have huge implications. Don’t forget, the India vs. New Zealand match is the Champions Trophy Final. An ICC title is on the line. The teams faced each other in the group stage, and the Men in Blue batted first. This time, they have been put to chase.

Rohit Sharma unconcerned about toss

However, Rohit Sharma isn’t concerned. Team India has won four consecutive matches in the tournament despite losing the tosses. It doesn’t matter if he loses the toss on the big day. As long as Team India does well, he knows victory and the trophy won’t be far away.

“We’ve been here enough, batted first and bowled first, and don’t really mind batting second. It hasn’t changed much; we’ve chased and won as well. It does give you a lot of confidence and takes the toss away from the game. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. That’s what we’ve spoken about in the dressing room, not to worry about the toss and to just play well; that’s what we’ve done, and we have to do today as well,” Rohit Sharma said after losing the toss.
