Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar stated that incidents such as the Bengaluru stampede following RCB's win in IPL 2025 will not occur again

Karnataka Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar has claimed that none of RCB’s games will be moved out from the state in IPL 2026. His remarks come after a stampede i the capital Bengaluru following the franchise’s maiden trophy victory left 11 dead and several injured earlier in the month of June. Following the tragedy, a commission had deemed the M Chinnaswamy stadium as unsafe to host big events following which Women’s World Cup matches and the games in the T20 World World Cup 2026 have been shifted out of the venue.

RCB to continue hosting home games in Bengaluru?

As per India Today, Karnataka Deputy chief minister Shivakumar stated that incidents such as the Bengaluru stampede following RCB’s win in IPL 2025 will not occur again , adding that events will be conducted at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in a way that the pride of Bengaluru is upheld.

In the future, whatever mishaps happened in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru, we will make sure such incidents do not recur. Going forward, we will conduct events in this KSCA stadium in a way that upholds the pride of Bengaluru. But we will do it properly, within the legal framework, and with better attention to crowd management while using this stadium,” said DK Shivakumar.

He reiterated that no IPL game will be relocated from the state. The Karnataka Dy CM’s remarks come after reports suggested that RCB had approached Pune to host their home games. This game after the Justice Cunha Commission had deemed the Chinnaswamy stadium as unworthy of hosting big events, citing lack of safety.

Along with this, we will also develop an alternative stadium, a large one. After the incidents that happened last year and the issues that followed, there were talks of shifting the IPL elsewhere. But from now on, no IPL will be shifted; we will conduct it right here. This is the pride of Karnataka and Bengaluru, and we will protect it. Whatever needs to be done, we will ensure it is taken care of going forward,” he added.
