England women’s cricket team, the winners of the inaugural ICC Women’s World Cup and the runners-up in the previous edition in 2022, will be aiming to end their 7-year wait to lift the trophy again. The last time they did so was in 2017, where current co-hosts India finished as runners-up. Led by captain Nat-Sciver Brunt, England women have a perfect mix of experience and youth in their squad to guide them to their fifth World Cup.
Batters: Trio of Knight, Amy & Tammy key (8/10)
England women’s cricket team will be boosted by the return of Heather Knight after a layoff for a long period of time owing to injury. Talking about their openers, Tammy and Dunkley are set to essay the key roles for the 4-time champions. The former has 4528 runs from 132 WODIs, including 324 runs, two centuries and one fifty to her name from 8 innings so far in 2025. Her partner, who is relatively less experienced, has 981 runs from 40 matches and just 83 runs from 6 innings so far this year.
England’s strength will arguably be their batters, with the unit comprising of the likes of the experienced Amy Jones, Knight and Danni-Wyat Hodge. All three have played over 100 WODIs and have been a part of World Cup campaigns in the past. The trio also boast of 2439, 4037 and 2038 runs to their name in the 50-over format of the game.
All-rounders: Nat-Sciver the only veteran (5/10)
Now, England’s all-round unit is all but certain a slightly inexperienced lot, at least when it comes to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Only three out of five all-rounders have been a part of the WC previosuly. Leading the lot is Brunt, who has 4092 runs and 79 wickets from 121 WODIs, 805 runs and 11 wickets from 18 WC games. Dean has been a part of 6 World Cup games in which she has amassed 198 runs and 11 wickets, and 1685 runs and 76 scalps from 45 ODIs.
Capsey, Glenn and Lamb are quite inexperienced in the 50-over format of the game. While Brunt and Capsey have been a part of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and hence have a better experience of playing in India, the other three don’t. Surely, this tournament will test the skills of the England women’s all-rounders.
Bowlers: Ecclestone leads pack (6/10)
Once again, England’s bowling unit comprises of at least the lack of experineced bowlers, with 3 out of 5 stars who have had very littke game-time in WODIs. Sophie is the best of the lot with 125 wickets to her name followed by Bell with 38 wickets. Filler, Arlott and Smith have 29, 6 and 10 scalps to their name. England might heavily depend on their all-rounders and the duo of Bell and Ecclestone to deliver in India as they have been a part of the WPL as well.
