Day 1 of round 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season was headlined by hundreds from Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad, while Sarfaraz Khan failed.

Another action-packed day has come to an end in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy. Ajinkya Rahane, who retired hurt yesterday, came back to play and ended his knock at 159 as Mumbai continued to bat in the rain-hit match against Chhattisgarh.

Karun Nair’s lone-warrior knock

Karun Nair, who was 14 runs shy of his hundred, scored big and remained unbeaten on 174 as Karnataka was all out for 371. Considering his Test aspiration, such a lone warrior innings bodes well. Since the number three spot is somewhat open for grabs, Nair’s knock is timely. He needs to continue in such form until the India vs South Africa Test series.

Shahbaz Ahmed outshines Shami & Akash Deep

Bengal has fought back against Gujarat. After getting dismissed for 279, they have their opposition at 107/7. Much of this credit goes to Shahbaz Ahmed. The left-arm orthodox spinner has already taken 4 wickets. After Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep’s early blows, Shahbaz took the game completely away from Gujarat.

Assam’s record-breaking day

Assam has entered the history books. The Riyan Parag-led side has won the shortest-ever Ranji Trophy match. The game against Services was over in just 540 balls (90 overs), and just 359 runs were scored. Not just this, but two hat-tricks were taken in the match for the third time in first-class history by Assam’s Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jangra.

No fifty for Kishan; Auqib Nabi shines

Ishan Kishan missed out on a fifty as Jharkhand were all out for 332 against Vidarbha. Tamil Nadu’s Pradosh Ranjan Paul scored an unbeaten double hundred against Nagaland, while Gurjapneet Singh has taken all four wickets that have fallen so far.

Punjab’s opener Harnoor Singh has scored a glorious 170 against Kerala, when the next best score after him is just 41. Haryana has beaten Tripura in a match where just 349 runs were scored.

Kashmir’s Abdul Samad, Yudhvir Singh, and Auqib Nabi scored fine fifties against Rajasthan to gain a 130-run lead. But that wasn’t all; Nabi returned to claim the first five wickets and has Rajasthan at 41/5.
