Assam cricket team star Riyan Parag has been dragged into a heated debate on social media, with multiple former cricketers and fans arguing for and against his inclusion in the ODI format. The batter played his only ODI back in August 2024 and was last seen in action in a T20I shortly after that. Amid the raging debate over his inclusion in the ODI side, Parag has broken his silence on the matter.
Parag feels he’ll play both T20Is and ODIs for India in future
As per Sportstar, Parag claimed that he felt he had fared decently while playing for India, adding that it was his belief which could even be dubbed as overconfidence. The Assam batter said that he is currently not playing for India due to his shoulder injury, adding that he would go on to play both ODIs and T20Is once he is fully fit. Parag is currently taking part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.
“I felt I was pretty decent [for India]. This is my belief, or overconfidence; you can say whatever you want. But I know that because my shoulder was injured, I am currently not playing for India. Otherwise, I think I can play both white-ball formats. Whenever I am fully fit, you will see me in India colours again,” Riyan said.
The debate over Parag was triggered on social media after former RCB star Shreevats Goswami had claimed that the RR captain did not deserve to be in the squad for the 50-over format. Meanwhile, Ashwin claimed that Parag would have to display more versitality if he has to break into the ODI side.
