PCB and Pakistan seem to be really upset about the fact that no one from the board, handed out the prizes to India and New Zealand players, after the Champions Trophy final on Sunday. The presentation party included Roger Twose, Jay Shah, Roger Binny, and even Devajit Saikia.
India Win Champions Trophy, PCB Loses Cool
Ex-cricketers Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar have already expressed their displeasure over the same. It seems, while PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi was unwell and couldn’t travel to Dubai for the final, PCB COO and Tournament Director Sumair Ahmed, who was there, wasn’t called for the honours.
“The chairman couldn’t travel, but COO Sumair Ahmed Syed was there and attended the final. He should have been on stage to represent the PCB,” said a source to Geo.tv.
The report further said that the board wasn’t too happy about the entire development. If that is not enough, the move to send Aaron Finch with the trophy, instead of Champions Trophy-winning 2017 skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed wasn’t considered too.
Why No Pakistani in Presentation Party?
It seems that the ICC had full power to decide the members of the presentation party, but didn’t include any Pakistani despite that. Earlier, Wasim Akram had said, “The question now is that we were the hosts, weren’t we? How come even the CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board or whoever it may be who was representing that chairman was not on the stage? Was he not invited on the stage? I don’t know what the story is, but it definitely looked odd to me as well while sitting here. It was very important to have a Pakistani on the stage. Even if he didn’t present the cup for the medal, somebody should have been there.”
