Many were surprised to see Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI for Team India’s opener against UAE, in the Asia Cup. But then, it seems it was just a ploy by skipper Suryakumar Yadav, to instill a fear in the minnows, where they looked too complacent against the other bowlers, and were eventually bundled out for 57, their lowest-ever T20I score.
Shivam Dube & Kuldeep Yadav decimate UAE
Yes, Bumrah did pick up a wicket with a perfect yorker, but that was way too early in the match, when UAE were 26/0. From there on, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube wrapped up the proceedings with utmost ease. Axar returned with figures of 1/13 in three overs, Kuldeep picked up 4/7 and was best of the lot, Varun bagged 1/4. while Dube recorded his career best figures of 3/4.
UAE record lowest score
There was no fight at all from the opposition, who perhaps played the names, instead of playing the ball to its merit. They bettered, or went lower against their previous worst score of 62 vs Scotland, set in 2024. As per stats, they have also recorded paltry totals of 73, 81, and 82.
What is surprising is, minus the quality of the Indian side, the team has been playing T20 cricket for a while now, and until last week were engaged in a tri-series against Pakistan and Afghanistan as well. Playing at home, they are also familiar of the conditions in Dubai.. but still they managed to dig a hole for themselves.
