No boos for Hardik Pandya at Wankhede Stadium, MI captain accepted by crowd after 1 year in IPL 2025

No boos for Hardik Pandya at Wankhede Stadium, MI captain accepted by crowd after 1 year in IPL 2025

Hardik Pandya has been on a path to redemption in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after a horrible last season.

One year ago, Hardik Pandya was booed at Mumbai Indians’ (MI) home ground, Wankhede Stadium. Now, in IPL 2025, he has been welcomed back as the MI captain, marking a full circle in the team’s captaincy saga.

Hardik Pandya was heavily booed and criticized by his own crowd after Mumbai Indians sacked Rohit Sharma and handed the captaincy to Pandya. MI fans did not accept the decision and booed Pandya in every game of IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya redemption in IPL

Hardik Pandya faced a hostile reception from fans last season after leaving Gujarat Titans to rejoin Mumbai Indians. He was booed at Wankhede Stadium amid the MI captaincy controversy. However, Pandya has delivered outstanding performances for Team India, winning both the T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy in the past year. After India’s T20 World Cup victory, he spoke about the difficult times he had faced, which led to fans sympathizing with him.

Hardik Pandya won the toss

Hardik Pandya has won the toss and decided to bat first against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium.

“We gonna bowl first, looks like a good track. Knowing Wankhede, dew may or may not come in. There might be some early swing, it plays well so we thought chasing is a good option. We want to get into good rhythm and kickstart. Overall, we want to play better cricket, we need to stay calm. Will Jacks comes back and we have a debutant – Ashwani Kumar,” Pandya said during toss.
