Mumbai Indians announce new head coach for WPL 2026

Mumbai Indians (MI) have won two out of three Women's Premier League (WPL) titles so far.

Mumbai Indians Women have entered a new chapter in their journey by appointing Lisa Keightley, the former Australia cricketer and two-time World Cup winner, as head coach ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. Keightley replaced Charlotte Edwards, who moved on to coach the England Women’s team.

Who is Mumbai Indians women’s new coach?

Keightley, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished coaches in women’s cricket, brings with her decades of international experience. She was part of Australia’s World Cup–winning squads in 1997 and 2005 and later transitioned into coaching roles that broke new ground. Notably, she became the first woman to be appointed as full-time head coach of the England women’s national team, and she has also led Australia during her long coaching career.

A stylish opening batter in her playing days, Keightley represented Australia in 9 Tests, 82 ODIs, and a T20I, scoring over 3,000 runs across formats. Off the field, she has built a reputation for lifting teams to new heights. At the franchise level, she has worked extensively across the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), The Hundred, and the WPL. Only last month, she guided the Northern Superchargers to their maiden women’s title in The Hundred.

Welcoming her to the Mumbai Indians fold, Nita M. Ambani, owner of the franchise, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Lisa Keightley to the Mumbai Indians family. A trailblazer in women’s cricket, Lisa has inspired generations with her passion and pioneering spirit. Her arrival marks an exciting new chapter for Mumbai Indians as we look to build on our legacy of excellence.”
