Mohammed Shami last played for Team India in March 2025, and since then has been trying to prove his fitness.

The question, whether Mohammed Shami is fit or not, should not be entertained from now on. The veteran pacer played the entire first leg of the Ranji Trophy season, and has now been included in the Bengal team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Picking up 20 wickets, he just showed that he is not only match-fit, but also in supreme form.

Mohammed Shami Named in SMAT

Coming to the squad, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been picked as the captain of the side, with Akash Deep also making the cut. The squad also includes explosive Batter Abhishek Porel. Meanwhile, Bengal is placed in Group C and will play their first match against Hyderabad on November 26.

The group also has Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Services, Puducherry, Haryana. On the other hand, Delhi too named their squad. Surprisingly, Ayush Badoni was not named the captain, but Nitish Rana was handed out the responsibility. What did not make sense is, LSG spin hero Digvesh Rathi was not included in the squad.

Delhi Makes Shocking Choices

Till now, there is no reason given for the same. Priyansh Arya, who made his Ranji Trophy debut this year, was also selected, in the format he favours the most. Anuj Rawat is the main keeper for the squad. Not just that, the likes of Ishant Sharma, Navdeep Saini and Harshit Rana will play, as per their availability.

Bengal squad: Abhimanyu Easwaran (Captain), Sudip Gharami, Abishek Porel (WK), Shakir Habib Gandhi (WK), Yuvraj Keswani, Priyanshu Srivastav, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pradipta Pramanik, Writtick Chatterjee, Karan Lal. Saksham Chaudhary, Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep, Sayan Ghosh, Kanishk Seth, Yudhajit Guha, Shreyan Chakraborty.
