A blinding innings of 36 from just 12 deliveries from MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur meant, the team achieved the third-highest score of 213/4 in the history of WPL, in the Eliminator against Gujarat Giants on Thursday. The 36-year-old struck at a massive strike-rate of 300 including four sixes and two fours, before getting run out.

But then, before getting out, Harmanpreet made sure, that she, and her team broke a spate of records. Starting with the skipper, her strike-rate of 300 is the best ever in the history of WPL.. The next best on the list is Issy Wong for MI (250), when she hit 15 from just 6 deliveries. Also on the list is Shafali Verma, who scored 28 from 12 at a strike rate of 233.33.

The story doesn’t end there. MI achieved their highest-ever total in the tournament, which is only bettered by UP Warriorz (225) and Delhi Capitals (223). Meanwhile, this is also the highest total by any team in the playoffs, in WPL. Another player, Nat-Sciver Brunt was at her very best in the first innings, as she scored 77 from 41 deliveries.

It has truly been a remarkable year for the Englishwoman, who has scored five fifties in the season. That is also the highest by any player in the WPL, with Tahila McGrath scoring four in 2023. Meg Lanning scored four for DC last year, while Ellyse Perry also has four fifties this year. Sciver-Brunt is also the first cricketer in the WPL to score 500 runs in a season.
Previously, she returned with scores of 80, 57, 42, 75, 18, 37, 38, and 69. NOt to forget the contribution of Hayley Matthews, who scored 77 from 50 balls, and laid the foundation for a solid score for MI. She added 133 for the third wickets with Sciver Brunt. Interestingly, this was Matthews’ third century stand for MI in all the seasons.
