Indian cricket fans are eager to see their favourite stars in the upcoming matchweek of the Ranji Trophy. This year will be special as Virat Kohli is returning to domestic cricket after 2012, but most probably the fans will not be able to watch his match live on TV or OTT platforms. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already allocated its broadcast slots for January 28 to other high-profile matches: Karnataka vs Haryana, Bengal vs Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir vs Baroda. Although India’s captain Rohit Sharma’s return to Ranji cricket was televised last week, that decision was planned ahead of time. For Virat Kohli’s match to be broadcast, the BCCI would need to make last-minute changes, which could be tricky logistically.
“We don’t know if BCCI will make any last minute arrangements since Kohli is playing but we haven’t been intimated anything about broadcast of this game. Normally all big centres get one live game allotted (TV or streaming). We had a game against Tamil Nadu which was aired live. The roster for broadcast is set months in advance,” a DDCA official told PTI.
Anticipation of Kohli’s Ranji scene
Virat Kohli missed his last Delhi match against Saurashtra due to a neck injury, but now he seems ready to play. Kohli’s comeback not only boosts Delhi’s prospects but also brings added security due to his star power. His participation follows the BCCI’s renewed emphasis on domestic performances for international selection, with other players like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant also participating in the Ranji Trophy recently.

Hope for broad fan engagement
Kohli’s re-entry into domestic cricket presents a rare opportunity for fans to watch him play for his state. However, without a live telecast or streaming, fans might have to depend on social media and match updates. “The BCCI’s existing broadcast plans don’t currently include Delhi, but fans are hoping for a change,” a BCCI official mentioned, highlighting the desire for broader viewership. Supporters are now eagerly awaiting a last-minute decision from the BCCI to provide live coverage of this much-anticipated match, which could further boost the excitement surrounding Kohli’s domestic comeback.
