Travis Head, the best opener in IPL 2024? Well, definitely not against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Sunrisers Hyderabad opener walked with an egg on his face in the so-called Biryani Derby. Having scored over 567 runs with a strike rate of 191.55 in the season, all Head has managed to do against KKR is two ducks in three balls.
No ‘Head’ache for KKR
The batter with a monstrous record was slayed with ease by Mitchell Starc in Qualifier 1 and fell to Vaibhav Arora’s ball that swung from the outside leg stump and ended at the fourth stump. Having already lost his partner, Abhishek Sharma, all the aggressive left-hander could muster was a golden duck.
Travis’ tragic time
After scoring that blazing 89(30) against the Lucknow Super Giants, Travis Head has scored just 34 runs in 4 games. After his ducks against the Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, he scored a scratchy 34(28) against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
Today’s duck makes things worse, with Head’s image as a big match player taking a hit. Since 2023, he’s won the ‘Player of the Match’ in two ICC Finals, but playing in his first IPL Final, the southpaw failed.
