Who will be the captain for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) going into the IPL 2025? Well, this question has left everyone guessing and we might find the answer closer to the competition. However, many believe that it could and should be Ajinkya Rahane, who was the player of the tournament at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). But hang on, he will have his own tussle for a spot in the KKR’s XI with a talent that the IPL franchise themselves unearthed. We are talking about Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who has just smacked an awesome 18-ball fifty in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024/25.
KKR youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi sizzles for Mumbai
Mumbai dominated Arunachal Pradesh in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match, securing a monumental victory. In fact, they finished their chase in just 5.5 overs, racking up a win with 44.1 overs to go! Arunachal’s batters struggled to cope with Mumbai’s bowling, managing a paltry 73 runs. Mumbai’s bowlers, including Shardul Thakur, Harsh Tanna, Atharva Ankolekar, and Himanshu Singh, shared the spoils with two wickets each.
However, the real star of the show was Angrish Raghuvanshi. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter, who made his IPL debut in 2024, smashed an unbeaten 50 off just 18 deliveries, including 9 fours and 1 six. Raghuvanshi’s blistering knock helped Mumbai chase down the target with utmost ease.

Alongside him was another youngster Ayush Mhatre, who was out for 15. As for Raghuvanshi, he showed how lethal he could be. The 20-year-old talent was recently snapped for Rs 3 crore by KKR at IPL 2025 auction. On the contrary, Rahane was picked up at his base price of Rs 1.50 crore. Given the SMAT Rahane had, scoring 469 runs in 8 innings, with an impressive average of 58.62 and a strike rate of 164.5, he would be the prefered choice at number three but Raghuvanshi could be an exciting option too.
