The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have finally ended their hoodoo of losing matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Dhruv Jurel bashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a whopping 22 runs in the 18th over. It wasn’t just a spectacular show of boundary hitting, but it dropped the win percentage chances for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 65% to just 17%. A 48% difference is a day and light difference. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) were on the verge of hammering down on RCB’s Chinnaswamy curse. But then, just one over from Josh Hazlewood changed everything around.

The Josh Hazlewood special – different gravy for RCB

With Rajasthan Royals needing just 18 runs off the last two overs and five wickets in hand, the game looked firmly in their grasp. But Josh Hazlewood, calm as ever under pressure, scripted a death-over spell for the ages. Delivering the 17th and 19th overs, he conceded just 7 runs and picked up 3 wickets, flipping the script and sealing a dramatic win for RCB in front of a stunned Chinnaswamy crowd.

The turning point came in the 16th over when Hazlewood dismissed Shimron Hetmyer with a delivery that cramped him for room and produced a faint inside-edge. But it was his 19th over that will be remembered for years. With 18 to defend and a set and dangerous Dhruv Jurel at the crease, Hazlewood produced a sensational over: dot, wicket, wicket, two more dots, and a single.

From 47*(34), Jurel fell to a well-planned yorker, caught behind after a successful review, triggering a collapse that RR couldn’t recover from. Well, the credit for the wicket should also go to Jitesh Sharma, who seemed to be the only one who appealed.
