In the latest development, Jemimah Rodrigues has been released from the Brisbane Heat squad and will no longer take part in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 2025). The India women’s team star, who featured in three matches this season for Heat, had returned to India last week to take part in teammate Smriti Mandhana’s pre-wedding ceremonies. However, with the star’s wedding with Palash Muchhal being postponed indefinetly, Rodrigues has opted to miss the remainder of WBBL and stay back in India.

Brisbane Heat have agreed to a request to release Jemimah Rodrigues from the remainder of the Weber Women’s Big Bash League. Rodrigues returned home to India after the Heat’s match against the Hobart Hurricanes 10 days ago as part of a pre-arranged commitment where she was to be involved in Indian teammate Smriti Mandhana’s wedding last weekend. However, the celebrations were subsequently postponed due to a health issue with Mandhana’s father. Rodrigues will stay in India to support her teammate, and the Heat has agreed to her not returning for the final four games of the WBBL season,” Brisbane Heat said in a statement.

India’s leading run-getter in the recently concluded ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup was scheduled to tie the knot with fiancé Palash Muchhal on November 23. However, Smriti’s wedding has been postponed indefinitely after her father was rushed to a hospital on Sunday in Sangli. Smriti’s manager stated that the star did not wish to proceed with the wedding amid the family emergency. Mandhana’s manager informed that the star’s father is currently under observation and that various tests are being conducted in the hospital.

Mandhana was very clear that in these circumstances she did not want to get married, which is why the decision has been taken to postpone the wedding indefinitely,” Smriti’s manager Tuhin Mishra told the publication.
