Jay Shah's ICC to discuss tier-system in Test cricket, distribution of funds key factor

The ICC is set to meet on Thursday for their AGM, and Test cricket's future will be a major discussion.

The ICC meeting on Thursday in Singapore, will be an action-packed one, where a range of issues pertaining to cricket will be discussed. The foremost will be the qualification for the LA28 Olympics, followed by the Asia Cup future. One other aspect which will also be discussed is, Test cricket’s future, and if there should be a tier-system in place for the same.

ICC Meeting in Singapore on Thursday

As per a report in Forbes, the discussions about the two-tier system have been informal so far, including the promotion and relegation, and also, how the funds would be distributed. “If it’s (the plan) on the promotion and relegation basis it will get some backing,” ICC board director and Zimbabwe chair Tavengwa Mukuhlani said in April. “If it doesn’t have that then two divisions is useless. There’s no point and no context. We would not support that.

Future Of Test Cricket on Agenda Too

“The funds from the top division need to be shared properly.” Meanwhile, the WTC final is one thing that the ICC is pretty clear on.. that it should stay in England for now. That too will be ratified by the ICC. That said, the meeting will be headed by Jay Shah the president, and newly-appointed chief executive Sanjog Gupta.

So far, in the three WTC cycles, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa have emerged victorious so far. India have made the finals twice, along with Australia as well. Hosts for the finals, England have never made it to the summit clash.
