"It's unnecessary": Arjun Ranatunga unhappy with constant spotlight on Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli missed the 1st ODI between India vs England owing to a right knee injury

Ace India Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli’s form has dwindled down in recent times. Now at the twilight of his career, questions have been raised as to when he should hang his boots. In the meantime, former Sri Lankan great Arjun Ranatunga has claimed that Kohli should be left alone. He also further added that it is unfair that the spotlight is also on the star batter.

In recent times, Virat Kohli scored 90 runs in the Test series against the Kiwis, and 191 runs in Border Gavaskar Trophy. Come the ODIs, he scored 5 from 8 at Cuttack. Arjun Ranatunga claimed that it should be Kohli himself who will decide what he needs to do.

Ranatunga wants Kohli to decide when he wants to retire

“For a player like Kohli who has scored so much of runs, I feel it’s best if that’s left to him. It’s a call that Kohli needs to take, so let him take it. Why always have the spotlight on him? It’s quite unnecessary I feel. It’s his decision, so let him take that,” Ranatunga told The Telegraph.

While Ranatunga has made it clear he is extremely unhappy that the spotlight is always on Kohli, he however has also given him some cool advice. Kohli’s return to the Ranji Trophy was shortlived as he departed after scoring just 6 runs. The Lankan legend claimed that Kohli needs to speak with former legends like Sunil Gavaskar or Rahul Dravid to sort out his problems.

“I think what Kohli needs to do is speak to people like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar or a Rahul Dravid. That’s what he can do. They can certainly help him out,” he added.
