The teams have also asked for overseas players to mandatorily register themselves for the auction and not just participate in mini auctions.

All ten Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have recommended the BCCI to enforce a two-year ban on players not taking part in the league after being picked up in the auction. As per ESPNCricinfo, the teams have also asked for overseas players to mandatorily register themselves for the auction and not just participate in mini auctions.

The teams reportedly flagged instances from the past when players pulled out at the last moment citing personal reasons. They noted that this affected the team’s strategy and in turn forced them to look for replacements from shallower international talent. The teams reccomended the BCCI to ensure that the availabilitty of the player, barring family or urgent committments, has to be clear at the auction and not during the league.

The report further claims that the teams even highlighted an incident when a player’s manager told the team that his client was willing to play if he would be paid more. There has been a discussion between the team owners and the BCCI about the salary cap of the players.

The mini auction dillema

Another issue highlighted by the teams is that players frequently participate in the mini-auctions in order to get a high-priced deal. They noted that several players in the past had pulled out of the mega auction only to make themselves available for a mini-auction in search for a lucrative deal.
