With Rahul Dravid’s coaching stint with the Rajasthan Royals over now, he could definitely be on KKR’s radar, who parted ways with Chandrakant Pandit earlier. But that might not happen. As per a report in The Telegraph, CEO Venky Mysore in the Caribbean for the CPL, and upon his return, roping in Dravid could be discussed, but there is no surety that the latter would take up the job.
KKR Coach-less, Would Want Rahul Dravid
It seems Dravid is keen to take a break now, after having been coaching various sides for the last 7-8 years. In fact, he had given up on India role just to spend more time with his family, while KKR would be looking to give him a multi-year contract. At RR, after coaching for just a year, Dravid refused to take a broader role, that would have included more responsibility.
That is not it. KKR seem to have faced a setback as Sanju Samson’s IPL trade deal seems to have hit a stalemate as well. The franchise is not ready to trade any of their players, contrary to what was reported by various publications. The name of Venkatesh Iyer had sprung up, with the latter categorically denying any such talks.
India Legend Seeks Break
That leaves Kolkata in a bit of a lurch. Their last season’s skipper Ajinkya Rahane was rather ineffective with his leadership as the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. This year, he has left Mumbai’s captaincy, so would he available for the role next season, is a question. His deputy Venkatesh also had a poor season.
The team also doesn’t have a coach. So effectively, if the team is looking to recruit new players, or is looking at IPL trade deals, they would have to spend a bomb, to get their house in order. Unconfirmed reports had also suggested that they were looking to get KL Rahul in a deal.
