RR captain Sanju Samson provides big update on injury, after retiring hurt in DC vs RR clash

For the first time in the IPL 2025, Samson was looking in good touch. He'd scored 31 (19), but a sudden injury forced him to retire hurt.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has retired hurt against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The wicketkeeper batter was timing the ball well as RR chased 189 runs in Delhi. He had batted well against Mukesh Kumar and Mohit Sharma and was looking to take Vijraj Nigam down in the final over of the powerplay when he retired hurt. He offered an update after the match.

Sanju Samson updated on his finger injury, saying it feels fine but he’s not ready to bat yet. He’ll monitor the injury’s progress tomorrow. “It feels alright. I wasn’t just ready to come back and bat. It feels alright now. We will observe it tomorrow and see how it is,” Sanju Samson said at the post-match. Earlier, due to this injury, Samson played as an impact player in RR’s first three games, with Riyan Parag captaining the team.

On the third ball of the 6th over, Samson went hard for a cut. He missed the ball and immediately touched his ribs. It was clear that he was hurt. The RR physio came running out to tend to the opener as a break was taken. In the meanwhile, the third umpire called the delivery a no-ball.

Back after a couple of minutes, Samson smashed a full back outside off towards too long off. He didn’t run; instead, he moved away from the crease while wincing in pain. He signalled something to the physio and started to walk back.

Having looked sluggish throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, it looked like Samson had found his best form again. Just when things seem to be going right, he suffers an injury. You can’t know about Samson’s injury for now. It could have hurt his rib or his abdomen.

One thing’s certain, it’s something serious enough for Samson to walk off. RR are in desperate need of wins if they wish to advance to the IPL 2025 Playoffs. And as the captain, he wouldn’t have left until it was something that needed immediate attention.

RR would hope that it’s nothing serious and he’s back on his feet as soon as possible. One mustn’t forget that he was out of action due to a fractured finger from February to the middle of March. And only got the permission to wicket after three matches. Samson wouldn’t want to spend any more time away from the field.
