England’s left-arm fast bowler Reece Topley is doubtful for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League. Reports indicate that he could miss the tournament due to a groin injury sustained while playing for Sylhet Strikers in the Bangladesh Premier League 2025. The injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament early and return to England for treatment.
This is a major concern for Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025, as they recently had to replace Allah Ghazanfar, whom they bought at the auction. Unfortunately, he was ruled out due to an injury, and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman was brought in as his replacement. Now, with Topley’s availability in doubt, MI might have to find another replacement.
Take a look at the probable replacements for MI if Reece Topley is unavailable.
Shardul Thakur
Well, it is difficult to say whether Shardul Thakur can get into IPL 2025 or not, as he is set to represent Essex in the upcoming first leg of the County Championship. However, if he somehow makes it to the IPL, it would be wonderful.
No one can deny how well Shardul Thakur has been performing in recent times. He is enjoying his peak in domestic cricket, and it came as a shock when he went unsold in the mega auction. However, with the right timing and his familiarity with the Wankhede surface, many teams might consider him as a replacement.
This could be the perfect opportunity for Mumbai Indians to step in. If Topley is ruled out, Thakur would be an ideal replacement, as he can make an impact not only with the ball but also with the bat.
Kyle Jamieson
Currently doing wonderfully for New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, Jamieson is truly a wonder bowler who can not only take charge in the middle overs but also showcase his skills in the death overs.
What makes him special is that he can contribute with the bat as well if needed, making him a complete player. Although he has had a history of injuries, he now looks fit and is performing well.
Mustafizur Rahman
Mustafizur Rahman is surely one of the most impressive pacers, if not at his peak now. However, he has showcased his brilliance in the past in the IPL, having played 57 matches and taken 61 wickets.
Even in BPL 2025, he took 13 wickets in 12 matches for Dhaka Capitals. Given his vast T20 experience, MI may consider going for him in IPL 2025 as well.
