Jasprit Bumrah will join the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp by April 7. The pacer has been at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) BCCI Centre of Excellence (formerly National Cricket Academy), undergoing rehabilitation. Having suffered a back injury in Sydney in early January, Bumrah has been out of action for three months now.
Jasprit Bumrah back for MI
He had resumed bowling in late February but wasn’t close to his peak fitness and missed the Champions Trophy 2025. We are already more than two weeks into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, and he hasn’t played in the tournament either. Luckily for MI, Bumrah will join them soon.
According to reports, Bumrah will undergo two match simulations to see how his body reacts to the grind of professional cricket. If he aces these tests, BCCI will grant him the permission to join the MI camp. As luck would have it, April 7 is the date of MI’s next match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
However, the actual chances of Bumrah facing RCB seem slim. MI probably won’t throw the pacer into the mix moments after he joins the camp. It’s more likely that his first IPL 2025 match will be against the Delhi Capitals on April 14 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Focus on England Tests
We have earlier heard that Bumrah was being very cautious about making his comeback. Nobody knows his body better than him. He had been out for nearly a year before and didn’t want that to happen again.
Bumrah is also eyeing the upcoming India Test Tour of England. The pacer wishes to play for MI and in the IPL 2025 but not at the cost of missing playing a 5-match Test series in England. One must also add that Bumrah might be named India’s captain for that series, and so that grants a little more incentive for him to play in England.
MI needs Bumrah
As for MI, they have lost three of their four matches. They would want Bumrah to return and hope that he changes their fortune. Will that be possible? One can’t know. But that’s what Hardik Pandya would want.
