Injury scare for Team India pacer ahead of Women's World Cup 2025, falls awkwardly during warm-up tie

Pacer Arundhati Reddy suffered a leg injury while participating in the Women's World Cup 2025 warm-up tie vs England.

If one of the weak points of the Indian team’s Women’s World Cup 2025 squad had to be highlighted, it was their pace-bowling attack. And now, it could be weakened further as pacer Arundhati Reddy has faced an untimely injury during the warm-up match vs England on Thursday in Bengaluru.

Big Blow to Team India

As per a release by the ICC, Arundhati Reddy suffered a freak injury, while in her follow-through, attempting to take a return catch of Amy Jones. She ended up landing awkwardly on her left leg, and had to be taken out of the field, on a wheelchair. Meanwhile, the incident happened in her fifth over, and the rest of the over had to be completed by Jemimah Rodrigues.

Arundhati Reddy Picks up Injury

For now, there is no clarity on the seriousness of Reddy’s injury, and whether the BCCI would require to name a replacement. Anyway India are a pacer short, as Pooja Vastrakar was not picked in the squad due to fitness issues. As far as the warm-up tie against England is concerned, the visitors managed to reach 205/3 in 35 overs, with Nat Sciver-Brunt scoring a fifty.

As far as Reddy is concerned, she was one of the most improved pacer’s in the country, and in 11 matches had picked up 15 wickets at an average of 32.

India squad for Women’s World Cup 2025: Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wk), Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Sneh Rana, Kranti Gaud, Renuka Singh Thakur, Shree Charani, Uma Chetry, Amanjot Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues.
