"India will beat Australia by 1 run to win Champions Trophy": Ex-Aussie skipper's bold prediction

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke claimed that India will win Champions Trophy and will beat Australia in the final

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has picked India cricket team over his own country to win ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The last time two sides locked horns at an ICC event in the 50-over format was in the 2023 ODI World Cup where Cummins & co. handed India a heartbreaking defeat in the final. Clarke reckons that India will come out on top this time around, although by the thinnest of the margins.

Clarke backs India to win Champions Trophy

Speaking at Tata Steel Traiblazers Conclave organized by RevSportz, Clarke picked India and Australia to be the finalists of ICC Champions Trophy. However, he rated the Indian team higher, heaping praises on the spinners and the quality of the batting. Clarke pointed out that the conditions in Dubai favoured the Indian spinners who were performing very well.

I think Australia will be in the final (Champions Trophy) and will be playing against India. I want Australia to win but I actually think India is going to win the Champions Trophy. They are the best and number 1 ODI team in the world at the moment. I think it will be India and Australia in the final and India will win by 1 run,” Clarke said.

Further, Clarke backed Rohit Sharma to finish as the leading run-getter in Champions Trophy.

He (Rohit Sharma) is back in form, no doubt about it. The century he made in Cuttack before CT 2025, I’m certain he’s hitting the ball so well. He’s got an important role, particularly in those conditions. He’s got to play with that aggressive intent and maximize the powerplay. He is going to take risks, but I just think he is that good a player. I wouldn’t be surprised if India were to win the Champions Trophy and Rohit Sharma is the leading run-scorer,” Clarke added.
