The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest T20I rankings. There isn’t a lot of movement in the top ten. Mohammad Rizwan and Yashasvi Jaiswal have swapped places, with the Pakistan opener moving to eighth and the Indian southpaw going to ninth. The only other change is Phil Salt dropping to third after three consecutive failures in the ongoing India vs. England T20I series and Tilak Varma taking his number two spot.
Tilak Varma oncourse to become new ICC No. 1 T20I batter
The 22-year-old Indian batter has reached his career-high ranking after his incredible match-winning 72-run knock in Chennai. His rating now is 832, which is just 22 points below where the current ICC No. 1 T20I batter, Travis Head, is. Since Head won’t play any T20 matches for Australia in the next five months at least.
With two matches left in the India vs. England T20I series, Tilak Varma has a solid chance to overtake Head with two matches still left. We all know how good a touch he’s currently in. He scored 336 runs in between dismissals. Tilak has a strong chance to become the ICC No. 1 T20I batter by the time the 5-match T20I series ends.

Tilak Varma’s last 5 T20I innings
As mentioned above, Tilak has been in great nick. In his last five innings, he has been dismissed just once. This includes two back-to-back centuries against South Africa, both of which were unbeaten. He’s also scored a half-century since. Given his track record, you can’t put it behind him to score at least one more big score.
