And India win 4 out of 4 matches, in Group A to finish the league state. On Wednesday, Suryakumar Yadav & Co. got the better of Netherlands by 17 runs, after scoring a mammoth 193 in the first innings. Start Feb 21, they will commence their journey to become the first team ever, to defend a T20 World Cup title.
During the course of these four matches — vs Namibia, USA, Pakistan and Netherlands, there have been a few notable performances which all the fans remember, but then there have been a few concerns as well, which need to be addressed at the earliest. InsideSport discusess a few.
Abhishek Sharma’s poor form
One of the topmost concerns for the team has to be 0, 0, 0 scored by Abhishek Sharma in the last three matches. He is the second batter from the country to achieve this poor feat. Although he might be just one innings away from a big knock, but still, him getting out in the same fashion, can be problematic — especially with the Super 8 coming now.
This year alone, he has scored 5 ducks. This is the most by any Indian, along with Sanju Samson. The latter’s form has been bad too, and hence hasn’t made the playing XI regularly.
Bad display vs spin
Spin, it just feels like, Indians aren’t the best equipped to deal with. Either they lose too many wicket, or are just to cautious against the slower bowlers. In the USA match, leg-spinner Mohammad Mohsin returned with figures of 1/16, while Harmeet Singh got 2/26. In the Namibia encounter, Gerhard Erasmus had excellent figures of 4/20.
Pakistani spinners Saim Ayub and Usman Tariq bagged 3/25 and 1/24, respectively. And now, Aryan Dutt had exceptional figures of 2/19. So clearly, something is wrong.
Catching an issue again
Indians, despite being ace fielders, have a tendency to drop a few. This T20 World Cup 2026 has been no different. Last Pakistan match saw 4 drops. Tilak Varma dropped a couple, Ishan Kishan dropped one, and so did Kuldeep Yadav. Now, Washi dropped, and then Surya and Rinku collided, which too resulted in a drop. So, that could cost India big.
