West Indies legend Brian Lara implored India cricket team star Yashaasvi Jaiswal to not beat up the bowlers so bad following his outstanding knock in IND vs WI 2nd Test. The southpaw narrowly missed out on what would have been a well-deserved double century as he was dismissed for 175 runs, thanks to a mix-up involving Shubman Gill. Jaiswal stormed his way to 173 runs at the end of play on Day 1, slamming 22 boundaries en route.
Lara begs Jaiswal to not beat Windies bowlers badly
In a video uploaded by BCCI, Lara is seen heaping praise on Jaiswal for his knock in New Delhi. After exchange of few pleasantries, the legend is seen asking Jaiswal to not beat up the West Indies bowlers so bad, to which Jaiswal responds that he’s trying. Lara and the legendary Sir Viv Richards were among the audience taking a look at the West Indies getting torn apart by the Indian batters at the Arun Jaitely stadium.
“Don’t beat our bowlers that bad,” Lara tells Jaiswal to which the southpaw responds, “no, just trying.”
Jaiswal breached the triple-figure mark after 604 days at home. The last time he breached the triple-figure mark at home was way back in 2024 in the series against England where he registered scores of 209 and 214*. Since then, he has gone past the 50-run mark on five occasions but had failed to convert it to a hundred.
Jaiswal now has 7 Test centuries to his name and is only behind Tendulkar on the list of Indian batters to score most hundreds at just 23 years of age. Australia legend Don Bradman tops the list with 12 tons to his name.
