After a ghastly high-intensity blast in the national capital on Monday, the Kolkata Police have increased the security measures ahead of the first IND vs SA Test at the Eden Gardens, which is scheduled to start on Nov 14. As per a report in India Today, both the teams have reached the venue already, and will remain under a strong security cover for the entire duration of the match.
Security beefed up in Kolkata
The report further details down the security plan for the teams — with constant protection even on the move, right from the hotel to stadium, including the match days. Special NAKA checks and surveillance has been initiated around the ground, with the presence of officers at all major entry and exit points.
Meanwhile, to add to the sense of assurance, the Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma will visit the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, just to review the arrangements. The Cricket Association of Bengal too has been working with the authorities, to get all the arrangements in place.
Team India to start training on Tuesday
That’s not it. Security at the team hotels has also been beefed up. Both India and South Africa begin their training on 11th November, under tight security cover as well. As far as the match is concerned, this would be crucial series for Shubman Gill & Co. in recreating their supremacy in home conditions, in Tests.
Last year, the team had lost 0-3 to New Zealand at home, which still pricks. Post that, the Indian team beat West Indies 2-0, but a lot of ground still needs to be covered.
India’s squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK) (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep.
