India cricket team star Yashasvi Jaiswal squandered a golden opportunity as he was dismissed for just 18 runs in the IND vs SA 1st ODI. The southpaw returned to the 50-over format side for the first time since February 2025 as he was slotted to open the innings along with Rohit Sharma. Despite a strong start, Jaiswal’s innings lasted for just 16 deliveries before he was sent packing by Nandre Burger within the batting powerplay.
Jaiswal flops on ODI return
Jaiswal started off his innings on a positive note, striking a boundary off his very first delivery off Marco Jansen. He got lucky on the second delivery as the delivery went above keeper de Kock’s head for a boundary as well and it was signalled byes. Jaiswal’s second boundary came in the fourth delivery of the second over off Nandre Burger as he managed to get past the fielder at slips to the boundary behind the stumps. It was followed by a six in the third over off Jansen over backward square.
However, Burger didn’t take long to retaliate as de Kock managed to get the batter caught behind in the first delivery of the fourth ever as the bowler got the first breakthrough. Jaiswal was forced to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 18 runs off 16 deliveries.
Jaiswal’s poor luck against SA continues, following his struggle against the visitors in the Test series. In the two-match series, he managed to register scores of 12, 0, 58 and 13, with the only positive coming in the 1st innings of the IND vs SA 2nd Test where he managed to overcome the demons and scored a half-century.
India lost yet another toss and have been put in to bat first in the IND vs SA 1st ODI in Ranchi.
