KL Rahul fell short of his century in India’s 2nd innings at Old Trafford on Day 5 as he was trapped by Ben Stokes for a LBW. Resuming the innings for India on Day 5, the opener managed to extend his stay only for a little over 30 minutes in the 1st session. After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan early on in the innings, Rahul stitched together a crucial partnership with Shubman Gill to get India back on track.
Rahul misses out on century in Manchester
Rahul was completely outdone by a beautiful delivery from Stokes to trap him for an LBW. Ball tracking showed the ball pitching in the line of the middle stump and going on to crash into the off leg stump. Rahul’s marathon 230-ball innings came to an end finally in the 70th over as he walked back after scoring 90 runs.
In the 1st innings, Rahul fell short of what would have been a gritty half-century. The opener has had a good run with the bat in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. He has already slammed a couple of hundreds – one at Lord’s and one in Leeds – in this series. A hundred at the Old Trafford would have marked his second consecutive ton.
England posted a mammoth 669 and reduced India to 0/2 in the second innings, looking poised for a series-clinching win. But a gutsy unbeaten partnership between KL Rahul (87*) and Shubman Gill (78*) shifted the tide, steering India to 178/2 at stumps on Day 4. Now, as India trail by 133 runs with eight wickets in hand, all eyes are on the weather forecast and it might just be the lifeline Gill and Co. need.
