West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct. During the India vs West Indies 2nd Test in Delhi, Seales threw the ball towards Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had hit him for three boundaries in the over.
ICC takes action against Jayden Seales
ICC has fined him 25% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
Apart from the fine, ICC has also handed Seales one demerit point. The pacer had one prior demerit point in the last 24 months. If a player incurs four demerit points in a 2-year time frame, he or she receives a one-Test or two limited-overs match ban.
What did Seales do?
In the 29th over of India’s first innings, a frustrated Seales threw the ball back at the Indian opener after picking it up in his follow-through. The ball struck Jaiswal on the pads, who wasn’t pleased with the pacer’s conduct.
After the day’s play, Seales was called in by the Match Referee, Andy Pycroft. The pacer contested that he was trying to run Jaiswal out, but Pycroft didn’t buy it. He showed Seales the replays of the incident and concluded that he his throw was unnecessary and inappropriate.
