Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin minced no words in slamming Harshit Rana for his performance in the IND vs SL Super 4 tie on Friday. The pacer was the most expensive bowler for the Men in Blue in the contest, having conceded 54 runs and taken just one wicket in his 4 overs. Ashwin criticised Rana’s bowling technique and suggested that he learn from the thrashing he was handed.

Ashwin slams Harshit Rana

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin pointed out that playing only a few matches while warming the bench in the others could dent Rana’s confidence and rhythm. However, the Tamil Nadu spinner claimed that Harshit had played amateurish cricket against Sri Lanka by bowling fast and slow deliveries alternatively. Ashwin urged the Delhi pacer to learn from the thrashing that he suffered at the hands of Pathum Nissanka.

“I want to speak about Harshit Rana. Playing just a few matches, then sitting out others, can really affect confidence and rhythm. One fast, one slow, one fast, one slow. That’s really amateurish cricket. He should learn from this,” Ashwin said.

So far, Rana has played just two games in the ongoing Asia Cup. He was first seen in action in the tournament in the game against Oman where he finished with figures of 1/25. On Friday, against Sri Lanka, Harshit maintained an woeful economy rate of 13.50. The pacer is all but certain to warm the bench once again in the IND vs PAK, Asia Cup final and will make way for Bumrah to return to the line-up.

Nissanka made full use of Rana’s flawed bowling technique as he slammed 107 runs off 58 deliveries, including 7 fours and 6 sixes. The contest against SL was the first challenging one for India in the Asia Cup, with the contest going into a Super Over before India managed to secure a nail-biting win.
