After slipping on quite a few occasions with respect to field placements on Day 1, Rohit Sharma redeemed himself with a tactical move that saw India get a crucial breakthrough in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test. The Indian skipper’s captaincy in the first two sessions of the game was questionable, with serious lapses that including wasting reviews and delay in making the right choice of where to put a fielder. However, the Hitman made some good decisions in the third session of play to tilt the game in favour of India.
Captain Rohit Sharma finally nails it!
Rohit’s decision as captain to set an attacking field earned praise from former Australia coach Justin Langer. While speaking on commentary, Langer noted that Sharma sensed the moment and set the right field, as any great captain would do. Not just with field placements, Rohit struck gold when he decided to bring back Jasprit Bumrah into the attack and managed to get rid of the dangerous Travis Head quite instantly.
“it was a great captaincy by Rohit Sharma there, he played with Travis Head’s mind,” Justin Langer said on commentary.

Rohit’s captaincy came under fire after wasting a couple of reviews, leaving India in a perilious position with just one review left. He had no idea on how to deal with Sam Konstas’ menace as he faltered in field placements for the young opener. While he attempted to play a reverse scoop thrice while playing against Bumrah, Rohit only managed to get a fielder near the boundary line after the first two attempts. Further, the Indian skipper opted to not introduce Washington Sundar into the attack for nearly two sessions, another move that raised eyebrows.
