Two days before the India vs West Indies 1st Test, the first glimpse of the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is out. The venue, which hasn’t hosted a match in over 2 years, has gotten the opportunity to kick the Indian Test summer off on October 2.
Ahmedabad Pitch for IND vs WI 1st Test
In an image shared by RevSportz, one can see a tinge of green on the pitch. Since Test cricket returned to Ahmedabad in 2021, the surface has aided spinners. However, a flat pitch was rolled out for the final Test of the India vs Australia series in 2023. With spin being India’s main force at home, we can expect the grass to be shaved off tomorrow or on the day of the India vs West Indies 1st Test.
It’ll be fascinating to see which direction Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir go towards. In early 2024, against England, we saw India going back to good batting tracks instead of spinning pitches.
This was reverted to spin-friendly surfaces against New Zealand, a series which India lost. Will that result change Gambhir’s mindset? One might see better batting tracks, as we saw the Indian team thrive in good batting conditions in England.
