The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have endured their heaviest defeat (by balls remaining) in IPL history. Well, they posted their lowest total at Chepauk (103/9) before seeing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) chase it down in just 61 balls. It was a total domination by KKR, spoiled CSK’s party to see the return of MS Dhoni, the captain. CSK have already lost Ruturaj Gaikwad due to a hairline fracture. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 also kicked off. But what bad news does PSL 2025 have now? Catch all this and more cricketing stories from Friday, April 12.

MS Dhoni’s downfall!
What a downfall for CSK and MS Dhoni! They suffered their fifth straight defeat in IPL 2025, this time at the hands of KKR at Chepauk. MS Dhoni’s captaincy change didn’t help, as CSK’s batting woes persisted. They were bowled out for a paltry 103, with Shivam Dube’s resilience the only bright spot. KKR, on the other hand, was brilliant with both bat and ball, with Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock leading the charge. Dhoni pushed himself back to number nine in the batting order, providing nothing with the bat as his issues against spin extended. Can CSK figure out their best combination and turn things around? It’s looking unlikely. Read more here.

Bad news for PSL 2025?
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 is facing setbacks with international stars pulling out. Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey withdrew from Islamabad United due to domestic commitments in Australia, just hours before their match against Lahore Qalandars. Carey was replacing Rassie van der Dussen, who is expected to join the squad soon. This follows other high-profile exits, including Corbin Bosch, who left Peshawar Zalmi after being signed by Mumbai Indians in the IPL and was subsequently banned from PSL for a year. CSK’s longest winless streak in IPL
CSK have scripted an unwanted history. They’ve suffered 5 straight losses for the first time in IPL history, with their latest defeat to KKR being a thrashing. CSK managed just 103 runs, while KKR chased down the target in 10 overs with 9 sixes and 2 wickets lost. This was CSK’s heaviest defeat by balls remaining. Their batting has been disastrous, and playoff hopes are fading fast. Can MS Dhoni’s team regroup and turn things around, or will they keep sinking? Read more here.

Sundar’s preferences
India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been underutilized in the IPL, playing only 61 matches in 8 years due to the impact-sub rule favoring specialists. Despite this, Sundar stays match-ready through consistent practice. He revealed that he prefers batting in the top/middle order, where he can face quality bowlers and score big runs. Sundar has batted in various positions in the IPL, but mostly in the lower order. He emphasized giving his best in every practice session to stay on top of his game. Sundar scored 49 in his only IPL 2025 match so far. Read more here.

Massive change in ODIs
The ICC is considering scrapping the two-new-ball rule in ODIs to revive the art of reverse swing. The rule change, proposed by the ICC Cricket Committee headed by Sourav Ganguly, would allow teams to start with two new balls but switch to one ball from the 25th over. This could bring balance to the format and give bowlers a chance to reverse the ball, if conditions allow. Other proposals include introducing in-game clocks in Test matches to control over rates and potentially shifting the Men’s Under-19 World Cup to a T20 format. The discussions are happening at the ongoing ICC meetings in Zimbabwe. Read more here.

Why that celebration by KL Rahul?
KL Rahul’s celebration after smashing a six to win it for Delhi Capitals against RCB had everyone curious. And he spilled the beans post-match – it was a nod to his favorite movie, Kantara! The gesture was a tribute to his roots, given his connection to Bengaluru and the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where he grew up. RCB might’ve regretted not signing him, but DC got a steal at Rs 14 crore. Rahul’s unbeaten 93 off 57 balls was pure class, taking DC past the target with ease. That celebration though – priceless! Read more here.
