The India Cricket Team has already secured the IND vs ENG ODI series after their 2-0 win at Cuttack. While the Men in Blue have dominated their batting, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is a bit worried. The legend claimed that the lower batting order has fumbled and has requested the team not to do anything stupid.
In both the ODI matches at Nagpur and Cuttack, India have started well but have collapsed towards the end. KL Rahul has been pushed down to the 6th spot while Axar Patel was promoted to number 5. While Axar went on to hammer 2 fifties, KL Rahul has failed to score big runs and this is something that has bothered Gavaskar.
Sunil Gavaskar worried about India’s lower-order collapse
“They’ve got it in control. India don’t need to do anything stupid at this point. Just 30 more needed. Get these runs in singles if need be,” Sunil Gavaskar said during commentary.
KL Rahul scored 2 from 9 and 10 from 14 in both the games. It is fair to say that KL Rahul didn’t get adequate opportunity to bat. He was originally supposed to bat at number 5. But India’s new experiment of promoting Axar Patel has worked and failed at the same time.
While Axar Patel has faired well, KL Rahul on the other hand, didn’t have time to score big runs. India suffered a big collapse. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma gave the team a very good start. Even after Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal, the quick wickets of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul has kept Gavaskar worried.
