India cricket team star Karun Nair took a veiled dig at the selectors and the head coach after his snub from the Test side and the India A squad. The Karnataka batter returned to the longest format of the game after a gap of 8 years in the IND vs ENG series, only to deliver a sub-par performance following which he was dropped. After slamming a 174-run unbeaten knock in Karnataka vs Goa, Ranji Trophy 2025/26 round 2 match, Nair said that he was disappointed on being snubbed and that he deserves better.
‘I know I deserve to be there’: Nair
As per Times of India, Karun stated that he was disappointed with the national selectors after he was dropped from the Test side for the series against West Indies. Nair had to work very hard to make his comeback to the Test side, and had scored consistently across formats in domestic tournaments. The Karnataka batter said that while the selectors may have their opinions, he feels that he deserves a lot better.
“It’s quite disappointing but I know i deserve to be there after the last two years I’ve had. People might have their own opinions but personally, my opinion is I deserve a lot better,” Nair said.
Nair averaged 42.50 in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in six innings before hitting the top gear in Vijay Hazare Trophy. He smashed four consecutive centuries, averaging a staggering 389.50. Nair extended his form in Ranji Trophy, averaging 53.94 in 16 innings. Even on IPL return, he played a masterful knock against Mumbai Indians, dominating Jasprit Bumrah. For India A in the warm-up match against England, Nair scored a double century. But that’s where it ended.
Even though he got good starts, scoring 20-30s, he could never capitalise on them. His only fifty came in the 5th Test. But it wasn’t enough to keep him in the Test squad.
