Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi came up with an explanation justifying his famous “notebook celebration.” The youngster was fined on two occasions for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct via the aggressive sendoff. Thereafter, he modified that celebration to writing on the ground instead.
Reason behind Rathi’s celebration revealed
Rathi was first fined when he gave the aggressive sendoff to Delhi teammate Priyansh Arya. Speaking to Sports Tak, Digvesh revealed that he had a pact in place with the PBKS opener where the two decided to do some sort of celebration if they succeeded against each other.
“Priyansh and me are good friends. We had made a pact after talking to each other. He said that if I hit runs, I will do this and I said I will do this If I succeed against him. I just wrote his name on my notebook,” Digvesh said.
So far, Rathi has been fined twice. He was penalized 25% of his match fee for his first offence and 50% the second time. He has two demerit points to his name. After being penalize for the send-off given to Arya, he once again repeated the antics in the game against MI after getting rid of Naman Dhir.
Digvesh has been one of LSG’s most consistent bowlers and has been a good find for the team. So far, the spinner has taken 9 wickets from as many games in IPL 2025.
