The WPL 2026 auction is only a day away now and the excitement is already on a high. All eyes will be on perhaps the best all-rounder in the world, Deepti Sharma, who was released by UP Warriorz, a few days back. Former IND batter Veda Krishnamurthy feels that the MVP could be the in-demand player at the auction.
Deepti Sharma to fetch big sum at WPL 2026 Auction
“Deepti Sharma is a proven match-winner from earlier WPL seasons, performing brilliantly with both bat and ball. She also won the Player of the Tournament award in the recently concluded Women’s ODI World Cup. Her demand will definitely be high in the mega-auction, and every franchise will be watching her closely,” she said in a show for JioHotstar.
GG & DC could be interested
Ex-India skipper Anjum Chopra went a step further to also reveal, which team should really go for her, as per their releases and retentions. “Gujarat Giants should definitely consider Deepti Sharma in the mega-auction. Delhi Capitals might also target her as an Indian player who strengthens both batting and bowling. UP Warriorz could be the third team interested after Gujarat and Delhi in acquiring her services,” Chopra said.
Meanwhile, she is among the category of players, whose base price is listed at a staggering 50 lakh. So, if a bidding war starts, she could very well become the most expensive player ever in the WPL. As far as the WPL 2026 auction is concerned, a total of 277 players have registered, who will be fighting for 73 vacant spots. Out of those 194 Indian players are in fray, out of which 142 are uncapped.
