The significance of hundreds somehow reduces when it comes against the West Indies. To be blunt, it is not the strongest attack in the world, and it was only expected, that India would go on to pile big runs in the Ahmedabad Test. And that is what the Indian batters did, as they went on to score 448/5 at the end of day 2 in Ahmedabad.
Significant 100s for Dhruv Jurel & KL Rahul
At at the centre of all the scoring were KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, both scoring hundreds. But then, despite coming against the West Indies, the significance does not reduce at all. This was Rahul’s 11th ton overall, but the first in India in 3211 days. And for Jurel it was his first in international cricket.
The celebrations by both said it all. ‘Daddy’ KL Rahul dedicated his milestone to his daughter, while Jurel paid a tribute to his ‘Daddy’ upon reaching the fifty, and then the Indian Army, after reaching the 100. The duo explained, as to what went behind it. “It was for my daughter,” said Rahul, after the day’s proceedings.
On the other hand, Jurel said, “The salute (celebration) after reaching my fifty was for my father, but for the hundred, it was something that I had in my mind for a very long time because I have been so close to the Indian Army, I’ve seen my father since my childhood.
Dedicated to daughter, daddy & Army
“What we do on the ground and what they do on the battlefield is very difficult and you cannot compare that. I will always have my respect and whatever I will do in the future will be for them. I will like to dedicate this to them (Indian Army) for what they do. I have seen them closely how it is like and I remain very fascinated in those things. I also used to keep asking my father. I will dedicate it to those who deserve,” he said further.
As far as the match is concerned, India look way ahead of the West Indies. Batting first, the visitors scored only 162, while the Indians lead by a massive 286 runs, with five wickets still in hand.
