South Africa cricketer Dewald Brevis became an instant hit for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 after he was signed by the five-time champs in the middle of the season. ‘Baby AB’, who played for Mumbai Indians in the past, surprisingly went unsold in the mega auction held in 2024. However, he made sure that teams regretted not going for him by showcasing his explosive batting for CSK. Brevis has now opened up on his time in CSK, his bond with MS Dhoni, what playing in IPL has taught him and much more.
Brevis’ bond with Thala Dhoni
In a conversation with Ab de Villiers, Brevis revealed that he was floored by Dhoni’s humbleness. The CSK batter said that the former skipper’s door was always open for players to come and interact with him. Brevis said that he spent a lot of time with Dhoni at his room, chatting to him about his hobbies and watching cricket.
“One thing I can say about MS (Dhoni) is that his humbleness and he as a person stood out for me. Basically, how he is off the field, the time he has for players, for people. His room door is always open. It’s very special and I enjoyed my time there,” Brevis said.
Brevis featured in six games for CSK in IPL 2025 and amassed 225 runs. Coming out to bat in the middle-order, the South African brought to the table what CSK lacked the most – explosive batting. He maintained a strike rate of 180 and averaged 37.50 in his brief stint with the five-time champions.
Brevis also spoke about his love for Chennai and revealed that he relishes playing at the MA Chidambaram stadium (Chepauk).
“I couldn’t explain how I felt when I batted at Chepauk stadium. It was incredible, my second entry especially. Obviously, I’m playing for Chennai, so it is a special place for me,” Brevis added.
