After India’s twin losses in the Test series’ against Australia and New Zealand, there was a lot of negativity surrounding Gautam Gambhir the coach. But he has responded to his critics in utmost style, by taking India to an ICC ODI trophy after a massive gap of 12 years. With this he becomes only fifth individual to ever lift an ICC title as a coach and as a player.

And in the list are — Rahul Dravid, Darren Lehmann, Geoff Marsh and Gary Kirsten. Happy with the team’s effort, Gambhir took to social media and wrote, “Congratulations to 1.4 billion Indians! Jai Hind.” Meanwhile, in the final of the Champions trophy 2025, after being set a target of 252, the Indian team won the match by six deliveries and four wickets to spare.

Rohit Sharma the skipper led from the front, and scored 76 from 83 deliveries to going India a solid foundation. Earlier in the day, it was Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, who bamboozled the Kiwi batsmen, and made them settle for an under-par score. Coming back to Gautam Gambhir, he was exceptional as a coach of the Indian team, and took some hard decisions, that benefitted the team later.
It is important to note that this is one of the biggest victories for Gautam Gambhir, as far as his coaching career is concerned. He was at the helm when India lost Test series’ against New Zealand at home, and handed over the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to the Aussies, after a gap of 10 years.
