Champions Trophy security compromised? Pakistan's Punjab Police sacks 100 policemen on duty

Champions Trophy: Due to security concerns in Pakistan, India had already refused to play in the nation, and all their matches were moved to Dubai.

There is no end to Pakistan’s woes, ever since the Champions Trophy has started. Every day brings a fresh controversy or an embarrassment for the nation. Now, as per a fresh report, 100 policemen of Pakistan’s Punjab Police have been dismissed for refusing to perform their duties during the tournament.

More Security Trouble in Champions Trophy

As per an official of the Punjab Police, after they were found to be absent from their positions, with other refusing to perform assigned tasks during the Champions Trophy. “The police officials were assigned to provide security for teams travelling between Qaddafi Stadium Lahore and designated hotels but either remained absent or outright refused to take up their responsibilities,” he said.

The official added IGP Punjab Usman Anwar had taken notice of the matter. “There is no room for negligence when it comes to the security of international events,” he said. But maybe, the real reason for the absence has been due to long duty hours. If that is not enough, there were abduction threats to foreign nationals as well.

Pakistan Intelligence Warns of Terror Plot

But then, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar dismissed any such reports. Speaking with GeoNews, he clarified, “I would like to state on record that Pakistan is peacefully and very ably hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. Our grounds are full, we have fans from all over the world, the crowds are jubilant, our streets are filled with people who are celebrating the victory of cricket.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan has already been kicked out of the Champions Trophy, after they lost their two matches against New Zealand and India. They do have a match left against Bangladesh, but even a win there won’t change anything for the hosts.
