No one’s really giving Pakistan a chance against India prior to their match on September 14 in the 2025 T20 Asia Cup. Former players, experts, and even fans don’t have much faith in the Men in Green.
One reason why India have been tipped as the heavy favourites is just because of how strong they are. The Men in Blue have lost just 2 of their last 16 T20Is. Prior to this, they’d also won the 2024 T20 World Cup without dropping a game.
India favourites for Asia Cup match against Pakistan
According to former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif, the biggest issue will be the pressure that Pakistan will face. For the last 35 years, India have gotten the better of in ICC events.
Pakistan haven’t beaten them in the ODI World Cup and have a sole win in 8 matches in the T20 World Cup. Even in the much less important Champions Trophy, it’s tied at 3-3. When it comes to the Asia Cup, India are once again ahead by 2-2.
Each of these cricketers have thrown up seeing Pakistan lose to India time and again. They have even lived through some of these losses. Naturally, they feel extra pressure.
“There is pressure on Pakistan, which they have been carrying for the last 30 years. So maybe India will try to take advantage of it. The only disadvantage in India is that they have not played T20Is. They must be playing warm-up matches or practicing. But they have not played any match. This may be a disadvantage,” Latif told PTI Videos.
However, the former wicketkeeper batter thinks Pakistan let the emotion get the better of them as well. Logical thinking goes out of the window while India are tactical and methodical.
“We get emotional or hyper and try to do everything in one go. We don’t take the games deep against India, and because of this, Pakistan lose most of the time. India, on the other hand, play according to the pitch and match situation, and that’s why they succeed,” he added.
