T20 World Cup: Despite Pakistan getting a clearance, there is no surety if the IND vs PAK match will happen on Feb 15.

Even though the Pakistani team has received a confirmation from their government, to play in the IND vs PAK T20 World Cup match on Feb 15, there might still be an issue. On Friday, the Sri Lanka authorities issued a weather alert for Feb 15 & Feb 16. That means, the much-awaited clash between the arch-rivals faces a threat of a washout.

Rain alert in Colombo for Feb 15

In fact, the situation could get worse, and as per an advisory from the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, the public is advised to monitor the forecasts and updates. That could in turn be a huge headache for the organisers, players, as well as the spectators, who are in Sri Lanka, against all odds, for the blockbuster clash.

As per Accuweather, about 4 hours of rain is expected on the matchday, and there is a 26% chance of a thunderstorm as well. So, that might not be the best piece of news for one and all. All this, after the ICC and PCB officials met over Pakistan’s reluctance to play the encounter.

The PCB on Feb 1 had refused to play the IND vs PAK match to show solidarity to Bangladesh, who had withdrawn from the tournament, over the demand of not wanting to play in India. Finally, on Feb 10, it was confirmed, that the match would go as usual.

What happens if IND vs PAK is washed out?

If the IND vs PAK match is washed out, then both the teams get a point each and India will qualify for the Super 8. Pakistan will still have to secure another win in order to seal the berth. But truth be told, an upset in the group is unlikely and both of them will proceed to the next round without much problem.
