Ex-Pakistani players have a long history of making controversial remarks, either on social media, or on world television. Most are directed towards India in bad taste. Now, a fresh controversy has erupted after ex-PAK skipper Sana Mir made a comment on Kashmir. During the Pakistan vs Bangladesh Women’s World Cup 2025 encounter in Colombo on Thursday, she went on to refer Natalia Pervez as a player from ‘Azad Kashmir’.
Sana Mir stokes controversy at Women’s World Cup
That comment was picked up on social media, and Sana Mir received instant backlash online. Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India, but Pakistan has raised disputes over it for decades. Nonetheless, the bigger problem here was the brining up of such a topic during commentary.
This remark makes a bigger controversy, especially what had happened on the cricket field between the men’s side of both the nations in Asia Cup final. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side refused to take the winners trophy from ACC and PCB head Mohsin Naqvi, while he made sure that the IND did not get the trophy at all.
Makes ‘Azad Kashmir’ Reference
Earlier, India had refused to shake hands with the Pakistani players as well. Meanwhile, with the growing backlash, it remains to be seen, if any action would be taken on Mir. Coming to the PAK vs BAN match in the Women’s World Cup 2025, the Pakistani women were poor with the bat and were bundled out for only 129. Now, they next face India on October 5.
Keeping aside the politics, the Pakistani team has been no match to the Indian side, and lost three back-to-back matches in the Asia Cup. As far as the women’s side is concerned, India women have a 100% win record, and have won 11 out of 11 vs the opposition.
